Just Do It lifts the lid on climate activism and the daring troublemakers who have crossed the line to become modern-day outlaws. Documented over a year, Emily James' film follows these activists as they blockade factories, attack coal power stations and glue themselves to the trading floors of international banks despite the very real threat of arrest.

"A smart, funny, adrenalised portrait of 21st century activism" Danny Leigh - The Guardian

Sometimes you need a helping hand to ‘just do it’. Here are some links and resources that we hope will inform and inspire you.

Climate action groups

No really, just do it. Here are some great starting places.

Camp for Climate Action: Group taking direct action on root causes of climate change since 2006, camping at Drax, Heathrow and in the City of London, amongst other places.

Plane Stupid: A network of grassroots groups taking direct action against airport expansion; actions include occupying the roof of parliament and throwing green custard at Peter Mandelson.

Climate Rush: Suffragette inspired group raising awareness about climate change with picnics, bicycles and great costumes.

Rising Tide: Rising Tide is a network of groups which take local grassroots actions against climate change. Great resources with many links to other groups.

Real news

Forget the Murdoch dominated press. Hear it on the grapevine with these grassroots media collectives.

Dissident Island Radio: Incredible radio station focussing on environmental and social campaigns as well as issues that are relevant to anti-authoritarian people and groups.

Undercurrents: “The news you don’t see on the news” – Series of videos about activism around the UK which comes out twice a year. Covers green issues, animal rights and social justice. Been going for ages – seriously impressive stuff.

IndyMedia: A veritable hub of individuals, alternative media activists and collectives, offering grassroots, non-corporate, non-commercial coverage of important social and political issues and actions.

Climate Radio: Independent bulletins from the worlds of climate science, politics and activism.

Schnews: A free weekly direct action newsheet, also online.

ReelNews: This cleverly named video collective produces a bimonthly newsreel on recent activism.

Environmental films

Some other people have made great films about the environment and taking action. These are our favourites.

Facebook: Unfriend Coal: Check out this great little animation from Greenpeace about Facebook and Dirty Old Coal. We LIKE. Very much.

Wake Up, Freak Out – then Get a Grip: A great short film by Leo Murray about the frightening science of climate change – and what we can do to stop us going over the tipping point.

Coalition of the Willing: This film about online activism against global warming intersects with Just Do It’s work in many ways: a collaboration of different animators made this great 15 minute creation, released in June 2010.

Cheat Neutral: Brilliant parody of carbon offsetting by Beth Stratford about how to offset infidelity.

The Crisis of Credit: Check out (another) great animation that we like.  The credit crisis demystified courtesy of Jonathan Jarvis.

The Age of Stupid: Released in 2009, the Age of Stupid was a crowd-funded hit, with Pete Postlethwaite looking back from 2055 and asking why we didn’t stop climate change when we had the chance?

Resources

We’re learning plenty along the way, from social media networking to how to crowd-fund a film.

Twitter Training for Activists: A great slide show made for our twitter training for activists workshop.
